About Me
Hello I’m Rory Hayman, a landscape and nature photographer living in Spearfish, South Dakota. First of all, thanks so much for visiting my website and taking the time to browse my images and learn a little more about me. I actually started my photography journey after taking a video production in college as an elective over forty years ago. While I don’t have a formal degree hanging on the wall, I have studied the art of photography from many of the great masters over the years through their articles, books, lectures and courses.
Combine that with countless hours in the field practicing image composition, and learning the ways light interacts with the landscape, I’ve managed to put together a portfolio of images many folks tell me is beautiful and stunning. In fact, several of my images have been recognized in the annual Dahl Mountain Photo Exhibition in Rapid City, South Dakota including honorable mentions, a 1st place win in the experienced / professional category and a best of show award.
In the last few years I’ve also expanded into the nightscape genre of photography as I’ve always enjoyed being under the stars on a quiet night picking out the planets, stars, galaxies and constellations. This type of photography has been challenging, and I’ve had more failures than successes, but it is particularly rewarding when I nail one.
Also, as an aside, I work with local Real Estate agents to photograph and display their client’s properties on the MLS and other online sources. While real estate photography might not seem related to landscapes and nightscapes, many of the same principles like composition, light, balance color and textures still apply, so it’s a good way to keep sharp.
Again, thank you for looking and if a particular image touches you on an artistic or emotional level, please consider purchasing a FineArt photo print. Nothing makes me prouder than knowing someone found a piece of my artwork attractive enough to display it their home.
