The autumn foliage was at it’s peak on a beautiful Indian summer morning when I made this image. The golden leaves, blue sky broken by streaking clouds and the slow, still waters of the creek all come together for what was a memorable photo shoot.

One of the things that is definitely not in short supply in Iceland are dramatic skies. A great example is this mid-morning image made as rain clouds were breaking up along these Icelandic south coast mountains, casting golden rays over the landscape and this small farm.
It was a dreary day on the south coast of Iceland when I captured this image, but I thought it added to the emotional feel of this particular place on this particular day. For all I know it could be abandoned, but abandoned or not, it stands strong but lonely against the harsh and cold winds that were blowing from the sea.
I actually went to this spot to get a sunset photo, but when I saw the moon over this aspen grove, I switched to a telephoto lens to make the moon more prominent in the image, and framed up this shot. The colors were vibrant enough at the time, but I think the black and white processing adds more drama overall.
For our 50th wedding anniversary we took a vacation to Iceland. While not necessarily a photographic adventure, I did manage to get a few memorable images, one of which was Bruarfoss waterfall. It was a little challenging getting there, but that meant it wasn’t overly crowded with tourists, so we had the place almost all to ourselves. Known for it’s brilliant blue glacial runoff waters, it was certainly worth the effort.
It was a bitterly cold winter morning with wind chills well below zero when this image was made. The old barn isn’t much for keeping out the cold, and I wondered how long it might be before mother nature completely consumes it, but on this day is stood strong with a snowy Bear Butte Mountain in the background.
