Natures Fireworks

Finding wildflowers to shoot in Spearfish Canyon isn’t hard, but finding the right light is. To get this kind of fireworks effect, I need a shaft of light on the blossoms while trying to keep everything else in deep shadow. With a one second shutter speed I hold the camera as still as possible for an instant, then give a quick twist. My success to failure ratio is probably 1/20, but I’m having fun.
